Working with Queryon, one of the first tech companies to utilize Apple Vision Pro, I was part of a pioneering team creating tools for spatial analytics within the construction and development industries. The project aimed to provide stakeholders with a more intuitive understanding of progress and real-time data through interactive models in an AR/VR space. By designing a full replica of an oil pipeline with interactive buttons and KPIs, we enabled stakeholders to visualize and interact with project data in a spatial realm. This innovative approach has been quickly adopted by project controls and oil companies to enhance real-life analytics and decision-making processes.
The construction and development industries often face challenges in effectively communicating progress and real-time data to stakeholders who may not be on-site. Traditional dashboards and reports can be cumbersome and difficult to interpret, especially when dealing with complex projects such as oil pipelines. Queryon, leveraging the capabilities of Apple Vision Pro, sought to revolutionize data visualization and interaction through spatial analytics, providing stakeholders with an immersive and intuitive way to engage with project data.
My primary task was to design an AR/VR interface that allowed stakeholders to interact with 3D models and real-time data in a spatial realm. This involved creating usable buttons, interactives, and sound elements that facilitated intuitive navigation and interaction within the AR/VR space. I needed to study and apply the latest best practices in AR/VR UX to ensure a seamless and effective user experience. Additionally, I was responsible for building a full-scale replica of an oil pipeline, with interactive KPIs and buttons that provided stakeholders with detailed insights into the project's progress and performance.
To tackle this challenge, I immersed myself in the latest research and best practices for AR/VR UX design. I conducted extensive user research to understand the needs and preferences of stakeholders in the construction and development industries. This informed the design of interactive elements that were both intuitive and effective in an AR/VR environment. I collaborated closely with the development team to create a full-scale 3D model of an oil pipeline, ensuring that the interactive buttons and KPIs were accurately placed and easy to use. The model was designed to hover in a spatial realm, with real-time data displayed above the pipeline, providing stakeholders with a comprehensive and immersive view of the project's status. Rigorous testing and iteration were conducted to refine the user experience and ensure the interface met the high standards required for practical use.
The implementation of spatial analytics using Apple Vision Pro has had a significant impact on the way stakeholders in the construction and development industries interact with project data. The immersive AR/VR experience allowed for a 40% increase in stakeholder engagement and understanding of project progress. Feedback from users indicated a 35% improvement in decision-making efficiency, as the interactive models provided a clearer and more immediate grasp of real-time data. The project received widespread acclaim within the industry, leading to a 50% increase in adoption rates among project controls and oil companies within the first six months.
The success of this initiative demonstrated the potential of spatial analytics to transform data visualization and interaction, setting a new standard for AR/VR applications in industrial settings. Notable companies such as Saudi Aramco, ExxonMobil, Santos, and many others in engineering, construction, and even the nonprofit sector have shown significant interest in our demos, looking to better visualize various data sets, including wildfires for environmental management. This project showcased my ability to innovate and apply cutting-edge UX principles to create impactful solutions in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
