The BP Oil project focused on enhancing data visualization and user experience within their supply chain management framework. The goal was to create an intuitive and comprehensive dashboard that would allow BP Oil to manage operations, visualize costs, schedules, and track supplies across new developments. I. Situation

BP Oil needed a comprehensive dashboard to manage their supply chain operations for new developments. The goal was to provide stakeholders with real-time insights into cost, schedule, and progress, ensuring higher cost efficiency and accuracy in managing supplies. The challenge was to create a user-friendly interface that catered to both operational managers and high-level stakeholders.

II. Task

As the UX Director, I was tasked with leading a multidisciplinary team to redesign the user interface (UI) and improve the overall user experience (UX) of the supply chain management dashboard. The project required close collaboration with stakeholders and the data team to ensure that the new design met the high standards and specific needs of BP Oil’s operations managers.

III. Action

I led the design and development process, starting with extensive user research to understand the specific needs of operational managers and stakeholders. We created an intuitive interface that visualized key supply chain metrics, ensuring the information was easily accessible and actionable.

Collaborating with the data team, we integrated various data sources to provide real-time updates on cost, schedule, and progress. The design process involved continuous feedback and iterations to refine the interface and ensure it met all user requirements. We also provided training and documentation to ensure seamless adoption of the new tool.

IV. Results

The redesigned supply chain management dashboard garnered highly positive feedback from both users and stakeholders. The new user interface proved to be more intuitive, significantly improving the ease with which users could navigate and interpret data. As a result, user satisfaction scores saw a notable increase following the implementation. Analysts experienced efficiency gains, with reduced time spent on data interpretation accelerating decision-making processes. Operational improvements were evident, as the enhanced visualization of costs, schedules, and supply locations led to better management of resources, higher accuracy in supply tracking, and improved cost efficiency. Stakeholder approval was high, reflecting the success of our regular communication and involvement throughout the project, which ensured their needs and expectations were consistently met.

The project successfully showcased the critical role of effective UX design in complex data environments, resulting in a highly efficient and user-friendly supply chain management tool for BP Oil.
